Hello and welcome once again to ‘Have You Seen This, Adam?’ I’m Adam and as the Guinea Pig of the Sensum office, I’ll be recording and sharing my emotional response to the videos you think will get my emotions running using the cutting-edge Sensum product.
Today is our Halloween special, where followers of the website Following The Nerd decided on what video on the web I should watch to get my emotions running. Thanks to all those who submitted links and for Following The Nerd for taking part.
The winning video was Haunted Painting and I think the screenshots below will most definitely give an indication of how scared, or not so scared I was (If you can believe that!)
The video begins with quite a lot of heavy text and a hair-raising bass tone that only adds to the freakiness of this video. As you can see my skin conductance increases rapidly causing the visualisation to drop even before I’ve watched any of the video!

When I first see the painting, a spiral of fear and anticipation definitely increases as the visualisation continues to drop.

During the first few frames, I was also waiting on something to jump out and scare the absolute socks off me. One of those ‘look at the yellow dot on the left hand side very closely’ then all of a sudden a girl screaming covered in blood appears on the screen. I felt my hand beginning to twitch and definitely felt a heightened sense of fear.

What made it worse was the fact that there were only screenshots! So waiting for what may happen next was frightening on its own, especially when it jumps from far to near shots like with this ridiculous nightmare!

And this! My nervous laughter began to get increasingly apparent.

And even up to the very end, I’m still in the head space of ‘what the hell am I watching?!’
The music, or lack of, was definitely a major factor in my emotional response. As I said previously I was constantly waiting on something to jump out and scare me. Adding this with the concept of the Haunted Painting and the constant close ups only added to my fear. This definitely shows that less, is most certainly more!
