Last summer we embarked on the filming of a collection of N.Ireland’s finest writing talent for the Literary Belfast iPhone app, and we learnt a lot about our own country’s literary talents along the way.
Unquestionably, Belfast now attracts global literary renown and over the past four decades this has been its foremost imaginative export. Michael Longley, Derek Mahon and the Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney emerged in the sixties, and are known across the world as some of the finest poets writing in the English language. A prolific new generation of poets & novelists are coming through, from Leontia Flynn to Sinead Morrissey.
Journey with them as you view Belfast through writer’s eyes. Visit a selection of locations around the centre of Belfast that have literary relevance, where Northern Irish writers share stories, anecdotes & readings to accompany you on the journey.
Also included in this app is a section for News/Events keeping you up to date with all things literary in Belfast; Tour info for the other literary tours that you can take around the city from the C.S Lewis tour to the Young At Art tour; the Poets & Writers Exhibition showcasing the literary legends to contemporary stars from our city & land; and links directly to writer’s work on Amazon.
Our video guides for the Literary Belfast journey are Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley, Paul Muldoon, Marie Jones, Patricia Craig, Glenn Patterson, Martin Lynch, David Park, Frank Ormsby, Sinead Morrissey, Leontia Flynn, Owen Mc Cafferty, Bernard MacLaverty and Ciaran Carson.
As part of their ongoing commitment to lifting the international profile of literature in the city, Belfast City Council in partnership with NITB & Filmtrip have created this iPhone application to accompany the new Literary Belfast website, and literary culture of the city.
The app will be live in the apps store in May.
